Diagnostic ultrasound

What is this treatment?
Diagnostic ultrasound is a painless, radiation-free scan that uses sound waves to image soft tissue, joints, blood vessels and abdominal organs. The scan takes about 30 minutes and is performed by a registered sonographer, with a report sent to your specialist the same day.
Who it's for
Patients referred by a specialist to investigate joint, tendon, abdominal or vascular problems, or for pregnancy and gynaecological imaging.
What to expect
A gel is applied to the skin and a small probe is moved over the area. You may be asked to change position or hold your breath briefly. The sonographer can talk you through what they are seeing, and the report reaches your specialist the same day.
